Siraj Power (SP), a joint venture (JV) of Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) and Qatar Petroleum (QP) is planning to build a solar power plant in Qatar.

The project involves the construction of a solar power plant with the capacity of 500MW to 1000MW.

The project includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, access roads, control rooms and administrative space, the installation of solar panels transformers, power controlling units, and the laying of transmission lines.

QEWC planned to issue a tender for the first 200MW plant, with an expansion plan up to 500MW in the first quarter of 2013, however, it was delay. In October 2013, it was delayed for the second time.

In November 2014, QEWC again for the third time planned to issue the tender. However, it was delayed again.

In December 2015, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for forming the JV Company was signed between QEWC and QP.

In November 2016, a JV agreement was signed by the partners QEWC and QP.

In September 2017, SP secured the land in Al Kharsaah for the project development. The local and international investors will finance the project.

Planning activities are underway. The project is expected to be complete by 2020.

Scope
Siraj Power, a joint venture of Qatar Electricity and Water Company and Qatar Petroleum is planning to construct a 500MW solar power plant in Al Kharsaah.
