Summary
Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD (BEHE) and Gastrade SA (Gastrade) a part of Copelouzos Group are planning to construct an off-shore LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece.

The project involves the construction of an off-shore LNG terminal with a regasifying capacity of 6.1 billion m3 of natural gas per year and an LNG storage capacity of 170,000m3.

The project includes the construction of a floating storage unit (FSU), an offshore LNG receiving jetty and breakwaters, an onshore gas receiving facility, LNG storage tanks, a ship unloading system, a regasification and send out system, marine works and related infrastructure, the installation of safety and security systems and the laying of subsea gas pipelines from the platform to shore.

The terminal 24km subsea pipeline will connect the shore near the Apalos village area, east of the town of Alexandroupolis and the pipeline onshore will continue its northern route of 4km to a new metering and regulating station, in Amphitriti.

Gastrade and BEHE signed an agreement to study suitable ways of implementing the project.

On December 10, 2015, Bulgaria and Greece signed the final investment agreement for the pipeline.

In December 2015, Cheniere Energy held meeting with the Greek government to join the consortium to build and invest in the project.

In June 2016, BEHE and Gastrade signed the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the creation of the joint working group.

On March 23, 2017, Gastrade appointed Wood Group as the FEED contractor.

In January 2018, BMT Group and Metocean Services International (MSI) were appointed as surveyors where, BMT is tasked to deliver a preliminary study on sea states and hydrodynamic conditions and MSI will provide a site-specific measurement programme to record meteorological and oceanographic parameters for the project.

As of February 2018, Gastrade is under negotiation with Greece's state-controlled gas company DEPA and Bulgaria's state-owned BEH regarding equity participation in the project development.

Design activities are underway. Gastrade is expected to take final investment decision (FID) by the end of 2018.
