The Ministry of Equipment and Transport, Mauritania (MoET) jointly with Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport, Telecommunications & ICT, Senegal (MoITT) is planning to construct Rosso Bridge in Mauritania.

The project involves the construction of a 1.5km bridge comprising two vehicle lanes, two cycle lanes and two sidewalks.

It includes the construction of supporting infrastructure facilities on both sides of the border comprising customs offices, parking space, rest area and storage facilities.

In November 2001, the governments of Senegal and Mauritania signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the study and construction of the project.

In July 2006, the governments of Mauritania and Senegal were granted multi-lateral funding under the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) for a feasibility study.

On December 18, 2006, NEPAD approved US$500,000 for economic feasibility, detail engineering design, and tender documents preparation.

Grid International has been appointed as a consulting engineer for the project.

The Fund for African Private Sector Assistance (FAPA) has financed for a feasibility study of the project.

In 2014. the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) has been completed.

On December 9, 2016, the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved a loan of US$34.5 million to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and a loan of US$10.5 million to the Republic of Senegal, for the construction of the project. The project is co-financed by the Mauritanian and Senegalese governments, as well as the European Investment Bank and the European Union.

As of March 2017, planning activities are underway.

The project involves the construction of a 1.5km bridge connecting Senegal and Mauritania.
