Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCI) is planning to undertake the laying of Gujarat to SR HVDC Link project in India.

The project involves the laying of 800kV high volta­ge direct current (HVDC) lines from Gujarat to So­uthern region (SR).

The project will include the laying of power lines from Wardha to Hyderabad, Srikakulam to Vemagiri and Raichur to Sholapur, the construction of substations and related facilities, and the installation of transformers.

Raichur Sholapur Transmission Company Ltd was created as special purpose vehicle for Raichur to Sholapur 765 KV Single Circuit Line-1.

On January 7, 2011, a consortium of M/s Patel Engineering Limited, M/s Simplex Infrastructures Limited and M/s BS TransComm Ltd was awarded the contract to build Raichur- Sholapur link.

In December 2013, Raichur-Sholapur link was completed and operations were commissioned in August 2014.

In March 2015, Larsen & Toubro Ltd was awarded the construction contract for Wardha-Hyderabad 765 kV D/C link.

In July 2015, construction work relating to tower erection commenced.

In March 2017, a consortium between Siemens and Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. was appointed as supply contractor for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system.

In July 2017, construction work on Nizamabad-Hyderabad line (Part of Wardha - Hyderabad line) is completed.

Construction activities are expected to be completed by second quarter of 2018.

The project involves the laying of a 800kV DC line from Gujarat to the Southern Region, India.

The US$100 million project includes the following:

1. Laying of a power line from Wardha to Hyderabad

2. Laying of a power line from Srikakulam to Vemagiri

3. Laying of a power line from Raichur to Sholapur

4. Laying of transmission lines

5. Installation of transformers

6. Construction of substations

7. Construction of related facilities
