Summary
Oman Wastewater Services Company (Haya Water) is undertaking the construction of a waste water management project in Muscat, Oman.

The project involves the construction of a sewage treatment plant, sewage pumping stations and sewers pipeline. It will be undertaken into two phases one for Al Amerat and the other for Al Hajir region.

The first phase will undertaken into four packages in Al Amerat region.

Package A1: Al Amerat Wastewater Treatment Plant

It involves the construction of a sewage treatment plant with an initial capacity of 18,000m3 per day in the first stage and double the capacity to 36,000m3/day in the next stage. It also includes pumping stations, rising mains and treated effluent works.

Package A2: Al Amerat Waste Water pipeline: Western Area

It involves laying of a 213km sewage line and treated effluent pipeline, including 23km sewers, 140km laterals and riders, 43km house connections and 7km treated effluent irrigation main installation.

Package A3: Al Amerat Waste Water pipeline: Northern Area

It involves laying of wastewater pipes 145km, side pipelines 70km, treated water lines 16km, fibre-optic channels 182km, house-connecting lines 23.2km and associated facilities.

Package A4: Al Amerat Waste Water pipeline: Eastern Area

It involves laying of 8.9km of wastewater pipes, side pipelines 86.5km, treated water lines 9.9km, fibre-optic channel 230.3km, house-connecting lines 32.45km and associated facilities.

The second phase will be implemented in two packages in Al Hajir region.

Package A5: Al Hajer Waste Water project

It involves the construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 5,000m3 per day. It also includes construction of pumping stations, treated effluent works.

Package A6: Al Hajer Waste Water project

It involves the construction of a sewer, house connection sewers and treated effluent pipeline.

It will include the construction of sewage pumping stations, diversion chambers, a reservoir for treated effluents and tanker unloading points, the installation of an emergency lagoon, and the laying of pipelines.

NJS Consulting has been appointed as a consultant and will be responsible for project planning, including forecasting of population and wastewater generation, customer surveys, environmental assessment, financial modeling and risk analysis, preparation of detailed designs and tender documents, assistance with tendering and contract award and supervision of construction.

On July 27, 2011, Haya Water invited tenders for construction of the project under design, build and operate (DBO) basis.

On March 12, 2012, the bids were submitted after delaying four times from September 26, 2011.

In December 2012, Haya Water awarded the contract for the installation of sewer and treated effluent pipelines to a joint venture comprised of Egypt's Arab Contractors and Al Watanyiah United Engineering and Contracting Co. (formerly National United Engineering & Contracting).

The scope of the contract includes delivering 23km of sewers, 140km of laterals and riders, 7km of treated effluent line installation and 43km of House Connections.

In September 2014, package Al Amerat Waste Water Project: Northern Area: Sewer & Effluent Pipelines has been awarded to Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) while package Al Amerat Waste Water Project: Eastern Area: Sewer & Effluent Pipelines has been awarded to Gulf Petrochemical Services & Trading Company (GPS).

On October 29, 2014, a joint venture (JV) of Degrémont, a subsidiary of Suez Environnement, in a consortium with Al-Ansari Trading Enterprise LLC, was awarded US$63 million DBO contract for the wastewater treatment plant.

Construction activities are underway.
