The City of Edinburgh Council will contribute US$102 million to improve infrastructure and public space in the area.

Jestico & Whiles has been appointed as architect for the Hotel and Allan Murray Architects and BDP were appointed as architects and Purcell as the design consultant and Laing O'Rourke has been appointed as a construction contractor for the project.

In April 2015, a planning application for the hotel construction was submitted.

On June 11, 2015, the project secured approval from the City of Edinburgh Council. On August 13, 2015, developers received planning approval for the hotel from the Edinburgh City Council.

In October 2015, project secured all necessary approvals.

In October 2016, demolition works commenced.

In January 2018, demolition works completed and main construction works commenced.

Construction works are underway. The retail and leisure element is anticipated to complete in 2020, followed by full scheme completion in 2021.
