Summary
Alberta Wind Energy Corporation (AWEC) and Boralex are undertaking the development of Windy Point Wind Farm in Alberta, Canada.

The project involves the construction of a 51MW wind farm on 777ha of land. It includes the construction of wind tower platforms, a substation, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of generators, transformers and 12 (Vestas V136 4.2-MW) turbines, and the laying of transmission lines.

Wind testing on the site commenced in January 2006 and, to date, the measured wind resource supports the development of the project.

Vestas has been appointed as the turbine supply contractor.

In November 2014, the project secured the regulatory approvals.

MRP received development permit from the Municipality of Pincher Creek, provincial authorization from the Alberta Utilities Commission for the project, and is ready for construction.

The project has been delayed as MRP was unable to secure financing for the project development due to low power prices.

In August 2016, Alberta Electric System Operator approved a two-year extension for the development of the project with an in-service date on September 1, 2018.

On December 16, 2016, AWEC and Boralex signed a joint venture agreement.

On March 2, 2018, AWEC filed an amendment application to the Alberta Utilities Commission to reduce the scope from the earlier proposed 21 (Siemens SWT 3MW 101) turbines with a total capability of 63MW. The Commission is expected to take the decision by May 2018.

Scope
