Summary
Lusaka City Council (LCC) is undertaking the rehabilitation and upgrading of a road network in Lusaka, Zambia.

The project involves the upgrade of 120.7km roads. It includes the rehabilitation and upgrading of 91.4km of ring road; a new outer ring road from Kafue road (Makeni) to new Mumbwa road. It will further stretch to Lusaka West and join the Great North Road (Kabwe road) on Chikumbi road.

There will be 4 Grade separators at four selected points of the city, namely; Kafue road (Makeni junction), Kafue round about, Kabwe roundabout, & Arcades roundabout.

Roads such as Kasangula, Lake-Mwapona, Nangwenya, Zambezi, Alick Nkhata, Munali-Mutumbi Kamloops and Buyantanshi will be extended to 4 lanes.

Ben-Bella, Kafue, Great East (kabwe roundabout-palm drive), Independence and Kalambo roads will be extended to 6 lanes. It also includes the installation of modern street lights and signaling systems.

This project is co-financed by GRZ (15%) and Exxim Bank of India (85%).

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been appointed as technical consultant.

In July 2017, Afcons Infrastructure and Shapoorji Pallonji Co. appointed as the contractor to construct and rehabilitate roads.

In January 2017, Indian government approved Zambia a grant of US$286 million for project.

On April 12, 2018, a ground breaking ceremony held on the project marking the start of construction.

The project involves the rehabilitation and upgrading of 120.7km roads of Lusaka city in Lusaka, Zambia.

The US$289 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of access roads

2. Construction of pedestrian ways

3. Construction of other related facilities

4. Installation of modern signal and safety systems
