Summary
Jhimpir Wind Power Ltd (JWPL), a subsidiary of Burj Capital Pakistan Pvt Ltd and The Abraaj Group (ABRAAJ) are undertaking the construction of a wind farm in Thatta district of Sindh Province, Pakistan.

The project involves the construction of a 49.6MW farm on 506ha area. It includes the construction of substation, access roads, control building and related infrastructure, the installation of 31 General Electric's (GE) 1.6MW turbine with 82.5m rotor blades, generators, transformers, and safety and security systems, and the laying of transmission lines.

The project cost will be financed by a combination of debt and equity. Maximum Debt Equity ratio for the project has been assumed as 75:25.

Government of Sindh (GoS) has allocated the 506ha of land in Jhimpir.

JWPL issued the Request for Proposal (RfP) to various equipment suppliers and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors. In response, only the following two companies have shown interest and submitted their proposals.

The companies submitted RfP have been identified as:

1. Consortium of Sinovel Wind Group Co Ltd and Hydrochina Huadong Engineering Cooperation

2. Harbin Electric International Co Ltd with GE Energy as wind turbine supplier

On April 3, 2013, Harbin Electric International Co Ltd was appointed as EPC contractor for the project. The scope of work includes the design, construction, installation, commissioning and technical services. The contract also includes two-year operation and maintenance contract. GE Energy has been appointed as a wind-turbine-generator (WTG) supplier.

On September 25, 2013, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) approved up to US$101.5 million in financing for a term up to 11.5 years to JWPL.

In December 2015, the financial closure for the project was achieved.

Early construction activities on the project commenced in January 2016.

Construction activities are underway and are expected to complete by 2018.

The project involves the construction of a 49.6MW wind farm at Jhimpir in Thatta District, Sindh, Pakistan.

The US$135 million project includes the following:
