Summary
Department of Transport, Tourism And Sport (DTTAS) together with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Kildare County Council (Kildare) is undertaking the widening of M7 Motorway in Ireland.

The project involves the widening of existing M7 motorway and will be implemented in the following three parts.

1) Widening the existing M7 motorway from two lanes to three lanes both eastbound and westbound for 14km, between Junction 9 Naas North, at Maudlins (Perpetual Motion Ball) and the M7/M9 interchange at Junction 11.

2) Replacing and relocating the existing ramps at Junction 10 Naas South Newhall to the main Naas New-bridge dual carriageway, the R445. It also includes the construction of a new interchange at Osberstown between Junctions 9 and 10 which will be designated Junction 9a.

3) Construction of 1.7km of new Type 2 Dual Carriageway, 2km of single carriageway, together with a 1.2km single carriageway link road from the Sallins Bypass to Sallins town centre.

The project also includes the construction of six new structures, two bridges on the river Liffey, bridge on the Grand Canal, the new Osberstown Interchange bridge over the M7 motorway and a minor road bridge carrying Osberstown Road over the Sallins bypass, viaducts, noise barriers, security barriers, interchanges and the installation of signaling systems, security systems and lighting systems.

Atkins Ltd has been appointed as the clients' manager and Aecom Ltd as the design consultant.

On September 22, 2017, the joint venture (JV) of SIAC Construction and Colas SA awarded the construction contract.

In December 2017, earthworks commenced.

In January 2018, construction works commenced and are underway with completion scheduled by 2020.
