The Ministry of Water and Irrigation,Kenya (MoWI) is planning to undertake the construction of a dam in Coast Province, Kenya.

In January 2015, MoWI invited expressions of interest (EoI) from companies to serve as owners engineer for construction supervision and quality assurance with February 3, 2015 as the submission date.

Tech Training & Research Consultants and Jacobs Engineering India Private Limited has been appointed as consulting and design engineer.

In December 2015, the World Bank signed a financial agreement with MoWI to provide US$200 million for the project's development.

In March 2017, MoWI invited expressions of interest (EoI) for consultancy services with submission end date on April 12, 2017.

On August 30, 2017, MoWI issued a request for pre-qualification for appointing the construction contractor, with a submission date of October 25, 2017.

Tenders will be invited in June 2018 and received in August 2018.

Pre-tender activities are underway and construction is expected to complete in June 2022.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a 77-metre high concrete gravity dam with a capacity of 133 million m3 of water in Kwale County, Coast Province, Kenya.

The US$333 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of storage tanks

2. Construction of pumping stations

3. Construction of reservoir

4. Installation of related equipment

5. Laying of pipelines
