Verbund and Energie Steiermark (Energie) AG are jointly undertaking the construction of a hydro power plant with a capacity of 18MW in Graz, Austria.

The project includes installation of pump turbines, air-cooled motor-generators and under- ground waterways construction.

The project also includes construction of a dam, a desalting chamber, silt-flushing tunnels, headrace tunnels, a surge shaft, pressure shafts and penstock, a powerhouse, a transformer, an outdoor switchyard, a tailrace channel and access roads.

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process was completed. The Environmental Division of the Federal Board approved the construction of Hydropower Plant on the Mur, North of Graz.

The project is put on hold for two years, due to the lack of finance.

The construction contract was awarded to Bauunternehmung Granit Gesellschaft m.b.H., Porr Bau GmbH and Steiner-Bau GesmbH.

In the first quarter of 2017, the construction works commenced.

Construction activities are underway.
