Summary
The City of Calgary (CoC) is planning to undertake the construction of Glenmore Reservoir water diversion tunnel in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The project involves the construction of an underground tunnel that sits 73m underground and stretch from the Glenmore Reservoir to the Bow River, along either 58th Avenue or Heritage Drive. It will be between eight and 9.5m in diameter and accommodate a flow rate of up to 700m3/s.

It includes the construction of an inlet structure, a tunnel, an outlet structure, storage tanks, an approach channel and other related facilities.

Hatch Mott MacDonald has been appointed by CoC in 2014 to consider the viability and implication of building a diversion tunnel.

In June 2014, the council received an update from a preliminary study report completed by Hatch Mott MacDonald engineering consultants, as part of the final report from the Expert Management Panel on River Flood Mitigation.

In October 2015, the project was kept on hold.

As of June 20, 2017, CoC is recommending an alternative option for the construction of Springbank dry dam project which would cost US$245 million, however, a final design is yet to be taken to cancel plans for the construction of diversion tunnel which has a higher construction cost of US$500 million.

Study activities are underway.
