Ministry of Water and Energy (MINEE) and Electricity Development Corporation (EDC) are undertaking the construction of a hydroelectric dam on the Bini River in Warak, Cameroon.

The project involves the construction of a hydroelectric dam with a capacity of 75MW. It includes the construction of a reservoir, tunnels, powerhouses, substations, 70-km 225kv energy evacuation lines, 30kv rural electricity lines, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of generators, turbines and related equipment.

In May 2008, The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA) approved a US$662,000 grant for the viability of the project.

In 2009, Delphos International Ltd was appointed as feasibility study consultant.

The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was carried out by Naldeo and Alpha Technologies Inc.

On May 14, 2012, MINEE and EDC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sinohydro Group Ltd (Sinohydro).

On February 7, 2013, MINEE signed a commercial contract with Sinohydro to construct the project through the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.

On January 15, 2016, The International and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) granted a US$302 million loan for the project development.

In 2016, MINEE and EDC signed an agreement with the Exim Bank of China to provide finance for the project.

In November 2016, MINEE and EDC have finalized the final designs for the project.

In August 2017, preliminary works are completed which include the construction of the staff life base, the security posts and laboratories.

Construction works are underway.

The project involves the construction of a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 75MW on the Bini River in Warak, Cameroon.
