Summary
Nepal Water & Energy Development Company (NWEDC) is planning to undertake the construction of Upper Trishuli (UT)-1 hydroelectric power plant project in Nepal.

The project involves the construction of a 216MW hydroelectric power plant.

It will include the construction of a powerhouse, substations, headrace and tailrace tunnels, control rooms and other infrastructure-related facilities, the installation of generators, transformers and power controlling units, and the laying of transmission lines.

The project is ‘run of the river' type and being developed on Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model for 30 years.

International Finance Corporation (IFC) is responsible for arraigning required funds, and a joint venture of Daelim Industrial Company Ltd and Kyeryong Construction Industrial Company Ltd will be responsible for the construction works.

Jade Power is responsible for project investigation, design and detailed feasibility study which includes topographical and bathometric survey, hydrological and geological /Geotech investigation, ERT, core drilling, gauging station establishment and discharge measurement, optimization study, selection of plant equipment's and other all pre-requisite activities as per Department of Electricity Development (DoED) guidelines. The scope of works also includes preparation of EIA, ToR Scoping and EIA report survey, and design and drawing preparation of access road.

NWEDC has completed the engineering design approval of Environment Impact Assessment Report, drilling and drifting works, company registration, the financial arrangement of equity capital, tree cutting approval and land acquisition among others.

In February 2016, civil works have been halted due to earthquake and construction work on infrastructure has commenced.

On September 23, 2016, The Ministry of Energy (MoE) signed an initial deal on the PDA with the Nepal Water and Energy Development Company (NWEDC) for the development of the project.

In November 2017, infrastructure works are underway.

In February 2018, NWEDC signed PPA.

Construction is expected to commence in 2018 and scheduled to complete in 2020.
