The project involves the construction of a 900MW combined-cycle power plant. It includes the construction of two SGT5-4000F gas turbines, two hydrogen-cooled SGen5-2000H generators, one SST5-5000 steam turbine, a SGen5-2000H steam turbine generator, 26 bays of gas-insulated switchgear, a powerhouse, a substation, access roads, the installation of turbines, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.

In July 2017, KMEW awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Alghanim International (AI) for Sabiya plant.

Pre-construction activities are underway. Simple cycle operation is expected to commence in 2019 and construction is scheduled to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2020.

The project involves the construction of a 900MW Combined-Cycle Power Plant in Kuwait.
